Jimmy Roe, One To Watch

After winning 2013’s class A’s under 54 kg National Schoolboy Championships and gaining his first England vest, Jimmy Roe, did not have the 2014 season he wished for.

Crowned London Champion for the third year running, at a heavier weight of under 66kg’s, Jimmy entered the next stage of this year Junior Championships the National quarter Finals and looked to be well on his way to victory against Reagan Lazenby of March B.C. only to be disqualified in what some thought controversial circumstances. With that episode firmly behind him Jimmy believes that the experience has made him even more determined to win major honours again, with the new season looming.

Coming away from his first club Bodyshots notching up a most respectable record under the guidance of Lee Wilkins, was one of the hardest decisions he had to make. With no fault of the clubs it was decided that to progress even further he would need to get the right sparring at the weight Jimmy was now approaching and would have to consider looking at another club. The natural choice was the Fisher where there was an abundance of boxers within his weight range and an obvious choice because his father had boxed for them. The change took place and Jimmy is now boxing under the guidance of the very much respected Steve Hiser M.B.E.

With the Brawl Sports stand up series boxing show at the London Soccerdome on the 14th September at the SENI 14, matches with Lazenby and the this year’s National Champion Daniel Elliot were attempted to be made with both boys declining. It looks like Jimmy will be avoided by most on club shows and will have to wait for the championships to come again before he can assert himself as No 1 in his division.
